These 7 Products Must Never Be Placed Into The Dishwasher

Do you find yourself standing in front of the dishwasher sometimes while thinking: ‘Today, I’m not in the mood, I’m just putting everything in’! Wrong! Why? Because some things can be damaged by just one wash in the dishwasher. Something you don’t want; and definitely not for any expensive and/or brand new things.

Lazy or not? Make absolutely sure that you stop these things from getting into the dishwasher! For example, did you know that wood should not be washed in a dishwasher? Keep reading about these unique tips

1. Porcelain and Antique pieces

Apart from the fact that these items are very valuable and that it is a shame to put them in the dishwasher, they are very delicate and very fragile when they come in contact with other kitchenware. Due to high water pressures, movement in the machine itself and high temperatures, porcelain crockery will move. Especially porcelain with painted decorations should be washed by hand. High temperatures in the dishwasher can cause irreparable damage to the paint.

2. Cast iron

Cast iron cookware should not be put in the dishwasher and fortunately, cleaning this does not take a lot of effort. It can get white patches and develop rust. This is a great disappointment for such expensive pots and pans.

So, how should you clean them? Firstly, allow the pot or pan to cool down properly and then wash it thoroughly in warm water with a small amount of detergent. If it is made of pure cast iron without an enamel layer, avoid dishwashing detergent and only use warm water to wash it. Regularly season the pan with a natural oil such as vegetable oil to prevent it from rusting.

3. Wood

It may sound logical, but for many people this is still not obvious: wood should never be washed in the dishwasher! Wood cannot withstand too much moisture or heat. Heat will dry it out and twist or even spilt it. Products that are completely or partly made of wood, such as a wooden chopping board, should therefore be washed by hand. Washing a wooden product in the dishwasher can also have health related implications. Changes caused in the wooden product affect hygiene. Food residues and juices can be absorbed into the cracks, after which it becomes difficult or impossible to get rid of them.

4. Enamel

Although there is plenty of cookware these days that is dishwasher-safe, it is best to be cautious. The more often you put pots and pans in the dishwasher, the sooner they will start to weaken. Since these pans are far from cheap, it is better to wash them by hand. Enamel is a thin protective layer of molten glass that is bonded to metal, for example on some pans or crockery. An occasional wash in the dishwasher with other dishes will not generally damage them, but avoid doing this too often.

5. Knives

If you want to make your knives last as long as possible, absolutely do not put them in the dishwasher but wash them by hand. Their sharp blades can damage other plastic items in the dishwasher. High water temperatures can also distort the metal of your knives. A professional and razor-sharp knife is a very valuable and often very expensive addition to your kitchen. It would be a great shame if cleaning it in the dishwasher were to cause damage to it!

6. Plastic

To many people this sounds logical, but it still happens too often: plastic is put in the dishwasher. These days, you don’t always need to worry about things going wrong, but be careful. Plastic that is not dishwasher-safe can melt at high temperatures! This not only means that you lose the product, but the melted plastic can also wreak havoc by damaging your machine. So, always take care when putting plastic into your dishwasher.

7. Crystal

We recommend that you wash your crystal by hand; high temperature in the dishwasher and dishwasher detergent chemicals can damage glasses. If you do put glasses in the dishwasher, use a gentle cycle and mild detergent! Just like porcelain, crystal is very fragile. Using the dishwasher for these objects can make crystal become dull.

Do you ever stand in front of the dishwasher and think: “Today I don’t even feel like it, I throw everything in!”. A wrong thought! Want some stuff can do your door once in the dishwasher forever damage. Something you do not want and certainly not for expensive and / or brand new items. Lazy or not? Prevent these things from absolutely not going in the dishwasher! Did your example know that wood should absolutely not be included in a cleaning service? Read on for these unique tips!
